Laptop Hinge Repair
Hinges that crack the case, pull out of the base or will not hold the lid – laptop hinges repaired and the mounts rebuilt in Cambridge & Dagenham
Laptop hinge repair in Cambridge and Dagenham
A laptop hinge rarely breaks on its own. The hinge seizes, the plastic it is screwed into gives way, and then the lid starts cracking the case every time you open it. We free or replace the hinges, rebuild the broken screw mounts and replace the lid or bezel where it is cracked, for Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, MSI and others.
- Hinges replaced or freed off, screw mounts rebuilt with new inserts
- Lids, bezels and bottom cases replaced where they have cracked
- Screen cable and Wi-Fi antenna checked, since a bad hinge strains both
- No fix, no fee and a 12-month warranty

How a hinge repair works
Three steps, and you only do the first one.
Stop forcing it. Every open and close cracks the case further and pulls on the screen cable. Prop the lid or leave it open until we have seen it. A recent one on the blog: Dell G15 hinge repair.
A real hinge repair from our workshop
Dell G15 gaming laptop, Dagenham, October 2026. The hinge had seized, torn out of the lid and was grinding every time it opened.

Hinge problems we fix
The hinge is usually fine. It is the plastic around it that fails.
Lid will not stay up
The hinge has lost its tension or the mount has come away. Tightening rarely lasts; the mount needs rebuilding.
Cracking at the corner
The classic. The hinge is stiff, the plastic mount gives way, and the corner of the base or lid splits.
Hinge pulled out of the base
The brass inserts have torn out of the plastic. We rebuild the mounts so the screws bite again.
Lid separating from the screen
The bezel or lid has split around the hinge. We replace the lid or bezel and refit the screen properly.
Stiff or grinding hinge
Dried grease or a seized hinge. Freed and re-greased, or replaced if worn.
Screen flickers when you move the lid
The hinge damage is pulling on the display cable. We check the cable and replace it if it is damaged.
What we do
Repaired so it lasts, not glued shut.
Hinge replacement
New hinges for the model, left and right, with the correct screws. Many hinges are still available new; for older laptops we source good used ones.
Rebuilding screw mounts
The usual failure is the plastic around the hinge screws. We rebuild it with epoxy and new brass inserts so the hinge is anchored properly, not just glued.
Lids, bezels and bases
Where the lid, bezel or bottom case has cracked, we replace it. A new lid comes with the hinge mounts intact, which is often the cleanest fix.
Cable and antenna
The display cable and Wi-Fi antennas run through the hinge. We inspect both and replace a damaged cable, which also prevents the flicker a strained cable causes.
Why have it done here
A hinge repair should outlast the laptop.
Fixed properly, not glued shut
Superglue around a hinge lasts a few weeks. Rebuilt mounts with inserts last the life of the laptop.
Honest about what it is worth
On an older laptop a new lid and hinges can cost more than the machine is worth. We tell you, and you can look at a refurbished laptop instead.
Done in-house, usually within days
Hinges and lids are ordered for your model and the repair is done in our Cambridge or Dagenham workshop.
12-month warranty, no fix no fee
If the repair fails under warranty we redo it. If it cannot be fixed, you do not pay for the labour.
Questions customers ask
Straight answers before you book.
How much does a laptop hinge repair cost?
Freeing a stiff hinge is the cheapest; replacing hinges and rebuilding the mounts is the typical job; a new lid or base on top of that costs more. Send us photos and the model and we give you one price. General pricing is on the prices page.
Can a broken hinge be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Both are common. A seized hinge can often be freed and re-greased. Once the plastic mount has broken, the mount must be rebuilt or the lid or base replaced, and we usually fit new hinges at the same time.
How long does it take?
Rebuilding mounts needs the epoxy to cure, so hinge repairs are typically one to three days once the parts are here. Parts take one to two working days.
Is it safe to keep using the laptop?
Not really. Every open and close spreads the crack and pulls on the screen cable, which can turn a hinge repair into a hinge and screen repair. Leave the lid open and use it in place until we have seen it.
Can I glue it myself?
Superglue or epoxy on its own does not hold against hinge torque, and it makes the proper repair harder. If you have already glued it, tell us; it is still fixable.
Will I lose my files?
No. Hinge work does not involve the drive.
Do you repair gaming laptop hinges?
Yes. Gaming laptops are heavy and their hinges fail often. See our Dell G15 hinge repair for a typical example.
My screen is cracked too. Can you do both?
Yes, and it is cheaper to do them together because the laptop is already apart. We quote the hinge and the screen as one job.
